Description

The golden age of New York club life is alive and well in the latest offering from LRS. Designed by Raul Solis, who cut his teeth at Proenza Schouler, the label made its New York debut last season. But Spring 2017 feels like it might just be a breakthrough season for the label, which took over Lower East Side club the Rumpus Room for its jam-packed runway show this week.

After queuing outside for some time, an increasingly restless crowd of downtown cool kids and editors were ushered into the cozy, slightly retro, wood-paneled space and seated atop zebra print ottomans, and—when those ran out—took standing spots in every nook and cranny. The setting couldn’t have been better suited to the brand’s new collection. If last season was all about the dreamy hinterlands of sleep, Solis’s clothes this season are firmly a tribute to the waking hours, a lysergic lineup inspired by tripping on acid and ecstasy. Perhaps surprisingly, the designer set his sights on a notion of practicality.

The arty, punkish heart of his brand belies a collection of surprisingly wearable—even in the designer’s words “comprehensible”—pieces. Personally, this reporter was particularly taken with his dripping “brain monster” print, the product of, by Solis’s description, “thinking about how our brain looks when we’re coming down from ecstasy.” But even the straightest arrows out there could likely appreciate his takes on classic raver pants and fishnet tees. The thigh-high cowboy boots that have become a hit for Solis will be available in a trippy candy cane stripe. Shop them this spring at Assembly and Opening Ceremony.Read more at:http://www.marieaustralia.com/evening-dresses | http://www.marieaustralia.com/cocktail-dresses
