With change happening faster and faster in our tech-ruled world, being able to think creatively, flexibly, and quickly is more important than ever. From entrepreneurs and students to artists, writers, and scientists, everyone can benefit from a little more creativity in their daily lives. Your Idea Starts Here, a new book by graphic designer Carolyn Eckert, offers 77 specific questions, techniques, and exercises — cleverly combined with fascinating info graphics and intriguing visuals — that are sure to jump-start creative thinking, even for people who don’t think they are creative. Eckert will be at the Fairfield University Bookstore, 1499 Post Road, Fairfield, on Saturday, Sept. 17, from 12-3 p.m. to meet with customers and sign copies of her new book.

Over her 25 years in the design field, Eckert has encountered many creative and creatively challenged people and has seen what helps them succeed. She’s developed and refined her own techniques for teaching and inspiring others by trying out hundreds of prompts and exercises, encouraging her students to be more observant and to learn to see things from a new perspective. “Being creative is just about connecting thoughts that you didn’t put together before, and developing skills that you didn’t realize you had,” says Eckert.
